If you’ve been following us and our blog for a while now, you would know that I love featuring other local businesses to share their craft with you, our audience. I’m so pleased to say that I had the chance to connect with Melissa and Vanessa from Maid for You Cleaning Services to be able to offer you some insight into how professional cleaners do what they do. So I will stop “talking” right this minute so that you can dive into their super informative blog that they have prepared for us all!

We are Melissa and Vanessa, owners and operators of Maid for You Cleaning Services. We operate out of Windsor-Essex County. Before we get started, we figured we would share a bit about how our company came to fruition after many years of thought going into it. The spark to start our business happened over sharing our passion to work and create something for ourselves (as entrepreneurs do). Only a few short years ago, we were both going down a completely different career path altogether. We knew we didn’t love what we were doing at the time, but we quickly realized how much we loved working together as a team. Sitting in a nail salon during the pandemic we had this crazy idea to start our cleaning business and we still reminisce about the passion and excitement we felt that afternoon after sharing our ideas over manicures. Fast forward a few years later, we can not say this enough, if you have the chance to work for yourself, take it because there is no better feeling than being so incredibly proud to have built a business from the ground up!
Now, let’s admit it, you have been looking at your home and might feel a bit overwhelmed and you’re not really sure where to begin with cleaning it. Let us start off by saying, in this profession, there are some products and tools that we wouldn’t be able to do our jobs without. We have compiled an amazing list of some of our absolute favourite items to get you started with, whether you’re interested in deep cleaning or every day cleaning - we have some amazing tips for you!

Firstly, we want to talk about microfiber cloths! Isn’t it true that we’re all constantly searching for a life hack that can help us save a few bucks here and there? Well, did you know that microfiber cloths can be used to replace paper towels? We used to use paper towels religiously for cleaning but that got expensive fairly quickly (we need a Bounty partnership apparently). We love cleaning window glass, shower glass and mirrors with these cloths because we never have to struggle with the lint that paper towels tend to leave behind. Just simply spray your glass cleaner onto the surface and wipe with your dry microfiber cloth for an effortless streak free shine! These cloths also give the phenomenal finishing touch when shining fixtures and handles in your bathrooms and kitchens! You can purchase our favourite Kirkland brand microfiber cloths at Costco. We can’t seem to say enough great things about microfiber cloths because they are not only compatible with glass cleaners, but they also pair well with stainless steel cleaners and multi surface cleaners, too! Another great feature about these cloths is that they are durable and super easy to clean! Trust us when we say, our cloths get used A LOT. So, it was important for us to find a brand that stood up to tough dirt and grime. Simply, wash your microfiber cloths with your load of towels or wash them on their own on a regular cleaning cycle. To extend the life of your cloths, we find it is best to hang them to dry. Once they are dry, they are ready to be used once again!
In addition, would you believe us if we told you that your floors are the dirtiest part of your home? These floors see many dirty summer feet, spills, messy pets and lots of dropped food. If you aren’t washing your floors correctly then your floors are just as dirty as the sidewalk outside — and we aren’t joking either. We absolutely LOVE the Vileda spin mop! We wouldn’t be able to put the finishing touch on the homes that we clean without it! This mop is superior to any other mop that we have tried because, not only does it clean with ease, but the user is able to spin off all excess water/product before cleaning the floor. This makes it safe for use on hardwood, vinyl, tile and laminate. It is very versatile and so easy to use too! You’re going to start by filling the mop bucket with your favourite cleaning solution and then placing the mop head into your cleaning solution to saturate it fully, and then ring out the water. We normally ring out the water 4-5 times until it’s almost bone-dry! Next, we start the mopping process. The spin mop is a great replacement to all older style mops (the string mop, sponge mop, dry mop). It’s literally an all in one mop for your home and it has washable heads (hello eco-friendly)! At Maid for You we will mop your floors two to three times with the spin mop, until the water comes out clean - which makes us different from most of our competitors. You will visibly be able to see the water turn dark and dirty after spinning out the mop head and it is very satisfying to see your floors come out squeaky clean (we have done some satisfying reels on this, check out our instagram if you like that sort of thing)! Our advice to you is to ditch your old school mops and get your hands on this Vileda spin mop! You can purchase the Vileda spin mop at Walmart in the cleaning section!

To wrap it up, we want to discuss the power of Powdered Tide! Powdered Tide is OUR best friend and out of all of the cleaning products that Maid for You has tried, we love a good ‘ol box of classic Tide Powder Laundry Detergent. We use Tide on a variety of things in our clients homes. It can be used to wash walls, clean floors and baseboards, sanitize doors and their frames, and clean kitchen/bathroom cabinets. The ratio we use is one teaspoon of Tide in our Vileda spin mop bucket, with hot water. We find that a little bit of powdered tide goes a long way, so no need to go overboard with it. Powdered Tide is honestly a life changing cleaning product that not many people even know about. It’s crazy to think that a box of laundry detergent can be used as a multi surface cleaner and floor cleaner, isn’t it? You can purchase Tide Laundry Detergent at your local grocery store in the laundry aisle! We promise, once you start using Tide for your day to day cleaning you will never go back!
